This was not my race.
Not because of the course, or the the officials, or the race management…certainly not because of the volunteers or the anything having to do with the race.
I would run this race again; next year even.
I fell apart. We’re all allowed one; right?
This was my one.
But this is the race to do. This is the race you should train for and have fun with.
The course is simply fantastic. It loops through Burlington proper where the flowers were in full bloom. Petals strewn through the street like a ticker tape parade.
There are scenic byways and a few trails.
Even looping through the neighborhoods; which often bores me was neat because so many people were out with lawn chairs and cheering.
My struggle however was with my left hip. It may be the onset of some IT band annoyance. So let’s see what happens…

I had to walk a ton in this race. The last time I had to do that it was in 2017 in Celina Ohio in 110 degree heat and the aid stations ran out of water. (I left out NYC 2018 because I had shingles and I don’t feel that should count…)
This pain wasn’t as bad as the shingles pain but between the burnt shoulders from the heat and the stiff and achy hip I’d say this was a perfect storm of issues.
I was really upset that it took me nearly 4 hours to finish. I was feeling the hurt locker this time.
Now it’s time to recover!
