Self defense products have never been a huge focus for me. Maybe that’s because I’m naive; maybe that’s because there really is a gender stereotype where men don’t frequently get attacked while running… Or maybe I just run in safe areas… which goes back to being naive.
I have run during the day; and I have run at night. I’ve run in cities; I’ve run in the country, in the mountains and in the desert…only once did I ever feel “unsafe.” And I do not believe that I felt unsafe because of someone potentially attacking me but more because I wasn’t sure where I was or where I was going to spend the night.
But one thing has become increasingly apparent to me…I am less concerned about my own personal safety (see above about being naive) than I am about my kids’ safety. MAYBE I am an over protective parent?
I have a daughter and she walks to school, Well she walks to the school bus which brings her to school. And sure I could drive her to school but often I’m leaving for work when she’s leaving for the bus. And sure I can drop her off at the bus if I’m not leaving before she’s ready… And I can wait for at the bus if I did not have to be a work.
When I hear some of the stories my daughter tells me; I feel papa bear coming out ( which is funny because I am really not intimidating.)
When Bibrave offered to test the Sabre products; I selfishly said yes, if I can share them with my daughter.
I gave her a generic pepper spray when she first started walking to the school bus and what I dislike about that generic version is that it is a bit messy. The stream which comes out of the sabre product is more direct, deliberate, and precise.

After using the products for a bit, it’s fun to pull the alarm. In all seriousness though, the alarm can be heard easily a block away. While the likelihood that I will hear the alarm while I am in the house is slim; the facr that it can be heard for a distance really makes me happy that I gave her the clip on and the pepper spray.
The other neat feature, which I only recently realized…if I am running alone, and I fall or get hurt,i can use the alarm to alert people to my whereabouts. These personal alarms are really not just for my daughter or women whom are running alone, but really can be used by anyone.
