News flash; I am running another marathon; the New York City Marathon no less!
That’s not the surprise; although everyone looks at me with the “again” look. No; the surprise is I am running for charity.
This time around I am honoring my father-in-law with my miles. I am running for Team in Training which is the endurance fundraising branch of the Leukemia and Lymphoma.
I would like to share what compelled me to choose LLS and #TeaminTraining as a charity partner. There are hundreds of charities and while my family is a good reason to represent the purple and green; I was really impressed that since 2017, an incredible 51 treatments have received FDA approval—49 of them were directly funded by LLS (and generous donors like you…) The reason this is impressive is that a typical year only boasts 3-4!
Further…LLS is committing $25 million to childhood cancer research over the next five years! I am a sucker for organizations which help kids; so hearing that, to me, was cool.
Lastly, and I think one of the biggest reasons that I wanted to run for Team in Training is, LLS has distributed more than $362 million in Co-pay financial assistance since 2007!
They provide financial assistance to people and families suffering! Not just research, which is important, but putting dollars in people’s hands. Heck-yeah!
Anyway; this will be my second NYC; so follow my training and let’s see how it goes!
