When quarantine and wearing a face mask 1st happened; I was content with wearing the flimsy medical masks provided by my work (pictured below…the blue one in the middle.) They did the job.

As this pandemic progressed however; my desire to be less of a strain on the environment (reduce, reuse, recycle ya’ll) combined with the desire for comfort pushed me into finding a face covering solution which is a bit more sustainable…

This post is in no way, shape, or for. An exhaustive overview of all possible face covering options; but of the few I have tried to wear for an eight to ten hour shift…I feel its the best.

Above you can see a few of the common options available at the time I chose my Body Helix ULTRA-LIGHT FACE MASK HELIX: REUSABLE & WASHABLE FACE MASK. Besides having better protection than a Cloth Mask; the large over-the-ear strap design reduces ear discomfort during long-term wear and a unique non-slip fabric fits snugly to help reduce need for adjustments and minimizes contact between hands and face

Starting with the to, a black neoprene mask which falls off my nose (which I despise…) it is very stiff and hot.

It boasts similarly large ear holes but the cons outweigh the pros.

I have even tried to take one of my Body Helix nasal bridge wire straps to keep the neoprene mask in place… it was okay. The rigidity of the material caused the nasal strip to be less effective than the Body Helix version.

The KN95 (bottom left pictured above) mask stayed in place and didn’t expose my nose, but it too was rigid like the neoprene mask. Despite the t was also not reusable…

Obviously the blue medical mask that everyone uses and seemingly discards on the street is the most functional of the lot.

It’s easy to carry around. Its comfortable to wear…but what happens if it get wet… or worse, you get a nose bleed… Trash.

After every use…

To round it out, the cotton mask is similarly versatile, and similarly easy to carry with you. It doesn’t boast the closed-cell technology fabric which prevents potential asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic transmission… but they come with such fun designs…..

I can’t tell you how many people have complemented and asked about my face covering.

Unlike some of my running compatriots, I do not wear the mask while running. Shocker… I know…. but with my work schedule and life choices… running hasn’t really been on the calendar the last few months. Work has…that’s for sure. It’s the best everyday mask! I wear this mask everyday at work and it has been excellent, non chafing and relatively easy to live in compared to others I have worn so far.

My only offer of improvement would be some sort of guide to place the filter…a red dot perhaps, or some lined to line up the filter once its in the mask?

Putting the filter in could be a tad bit more convenient with a line or dot
